Taking action to provide aid

ACTIONAid, celebrating its 10th anniversary, is being helped by Ryedale District Council staff who pass on to their charity their used ink cartridges and mobile phones for a recycling scheme.

In just ten years, ActionAid Recycling has collected over 2m toner and ink cartridges from UK businesses - including Ryedale council - and profits from the sale of the items are used to support projects aimed at reducing poverty.

The council has contributed over 761 cartridges, which has helped raise more than £3,345 for ActionAid.

Mick Phythian, ICT manager for the council, said: "ActionAid Recycling offers a simple to use, free collection service including storage boxes and freepost bags - they couldn't have made it easier. It's rewarding to know that our cartridges and phones are not just being recycled, but are also helping to provide clean water or educational materials to some of the world's poorest communities."
