Setting the right tone

A FULL peal of six bells will be heard in a North Yorkshire village thanks to the success of a restoration scheme.

Four bells were taken from St Andrew's Church, Middleton, near Pickering, in July. While they were restored by bell-founders John Taylor, of Loughborough, Leicestershire, the inside of the bell tower was re-pointed.

Volunteers from the parish will install a new bell frame to hold six bells, the four original bells, a second-hand bell, and one given as a gift from the Keltek Trust.

Bells have been rung at the church since at least 1663. The full peal of six bells will be heard for the first time on Sunday, November 30, when Robert Ladds, the Bishop of Whitby, will dedicate the two new additions and the new frame.
