A PICKERING artist scooped a prestigious accolade when her work went on show.
More than 160 people entered six pieces of work into the British Society of Painters exhibition last month and Amanda Pickles, 46, of Western Way, won the Yorkshire Television Award.
"I've spent the last few years developing my painting skills and fulfilling my desire to create bold, colourful, art work, with a personal interpretation," said Amanda, who lives with her husband, Chris, and two children.
"I'm inspired by natural elements and the surrounding landscape and North Yorkshire Moors, and hope to create atmospheric, individual pieces of art."
This is the sixth time that Amanda has shown work at the exhibition in Ilkley. She leads a local art group, A Lick Of Paint, which meets at Middleton village hall.
"I'm currently working on an inspiring project to paint animals, jungle scenes and Aztec ruins in the exciting, new indoor children's play area, Animal Antics, in Malton," she said. The activity centre is due to open next month.
