MALTON

Forward on October 10 were 46 store cattle; 610 store lambs.

Cattle: bulls, Lim to £502 per head from D Earnshaw, Ch to £496 from D Earnshaw; heifers, Sim to £360 from C & S D Leckenby, Lim to £570 from K N Hurst, Ch to £445 from A & M Sheffield; bullocks, Lim to £380 from A H Tyson, BB to £418 from A H Tyson.

Sheep: lambs, Suffolk X to £48.80 from Wilton Lodge, Texel to £42.50 from Wilton Lodge, Ch to £42 from J G Hunter & son. Overall ave store lambs £39.25.

RUSWARP

The annual two-day sale of suckled calves again produced high-quality cattle which commanded premium prices. The 945 head of cattle forward met an exceptional trade which resulted in every single animal being sold. The usual large attendance of buyers from all over the north of England increased the average price of the clean cattle by £20 to £30 per head on last year. Steers with no claim and the best spring-born heifers were particularly sought after. On October 9, all bulls were an impressive trade, averaging £50-£60 per head more than last year.
