Winner Chatterbox is the talk of the town

A PLAYGROUP in Snainton is the latest group to benefit from our Community Chest promotion, in association with Calverts Carpets.

The Chatterbox Pre-school Playgroup in Snainton is September's winner of the community giveaway.

Members of the playgroup were delighted to hear it was the next in line to receive a free carpet fitting from the Calverts Carpets, which has already supported four deserving local causes.

Janet Baines, joint supervisor with Maxine Holt at the registered charity playgroup, presently run morning sessions from Monday to Friday for up to 24 children at the village hall in Snainton.

The hall is spacious, they say, but the large wooden floor was taking a pounding with the small feet running around it each day and, for some of their children with hearing difficulties, the volume of noise reached sometimes can be quite distressing.

The newly-carpeted area will be used for the noisier toys such as cars, train sets and dolls houses. The new carpet will not interfere with other village activites, either. It can be rolled up and stored while the playgroup is not in session.

Children come to the playgroup from Sherburn, East and West Heslerton, Thorpe Bassett, Yedingham, and Snainton, and, says Janet, they have a real treat to look forward to.

"The group is going from strength to strength, attracting children from the surrounding villages. As it grows, it will get noisier and much more lively and we wanted to ensure that all the children enjoy coming.

"We are very grateful to Calverts Carpets for making us September's winner and there is no doubt the carpeted area is a welcome resource to enhance the children's play," continued Janet.

Calverts Carpets set up the initiative with the Gazette & Herald as a way of highlighting the good work carried out by small charitable causes and community groups.

Calvert's Carpets offers a wide choice of carpets, rugs, vinyls, laminate flooring and roll ends at value-for-money prices and has stores in Malton, Thirsk, Northallerton, Driffield, Richmond, Guisborough, York, Middlesbrough, Scarborough and Nawton, Helmsley.

If you're involved with a community group or organisation that you think merits a carpet makeover, send details of the group, what it does and why it is deserving, to Sarah Carter, Community Chest (Malton), Cicada Public Relations Limited, 101 Station Parade, Harrogate HG1 1HB.
