Potato blight confirmed

POTATO blight has been confirmed in North Yorkshire, according to the British Potato Council (BPC).

The blight infections were identified by BPC 'blight scouts' in crops growing in the Filey area and in the Howardian Hills.

About two weeks ago, there was also a confirmed report in a potato dump in the Malton area.

Potato growers in the surrounding areas should intensify their crop monitoring and blight control programmes, advises the BPC.

Further details may be found on the BPC's blight mapping website www.potato.org.uk/blight.
