Muston festival

FATHER Christmas lined up with Snow White and her Seven Dwarfs when the pretty village of Muston staged its now legendary annual Scarecrow Festival.

More than 100 households made character scarecrows, many of them humorous - scantily-clad ladies, poachers, the Prince of Wales, a mermaid, dancing round the newly-erected maypole, and one even building a flood defence with sandbags recalling last year's flash floods (photo at right).

Coun Godfrey Allanson, one of the chief organisers, said: "The village has been packed with visitors - they were even arriving two hours before the festival started."

All the proceeds raised go towards helping village organisations, with one of the latest to benefit being the cricket club.

An added bonus for visitors to Muston was a big flower festival held in the parish church of All Saints on the theme of leisure and sport.

The events continue until Sunday.
