Malton deal hammer blow to rivals

MALTON and Old Malton opener Danny Foxton is pictured getting stuck into the Pickering bowling attack during his side's victory over their local rivals in the semi-final of the East Yorkshire Cup on Sunday.

Malton batted first, with Foxton and Neil Johnson putting on 31 in eight overs. Andy Grayson, though, claimed both openers within a few overs of each other. Aussie Dave Nankervis stamped his class on the game with 57 as Malton went on to record 185 in their 40 overs. Pickering's top bowlers were Craig Aconley, who went for just 16 runs in his eight overs, and Col Frank, who took 3 for 44.

Pickering's reply started poorly, with Tony Linsley having Mark Shepherd caught behind in the first over. In the fourth over, Steve Oldfield trapped Col Frank lbw for 2. Chris Nichols set about rebuilding the Pickering innings and he went on to make a solid 59. Mark Aconley also batted well, but the Malton bowlers never let Pickering get away and Brigham bowled Aconley round his legs for 20. Mark Yates was keeping things tight at his end - just 20 runs came from his allotted overs.

Pickering started to hit out in the chase for runs, but Malton had just the right man for the job as Danny Foxton bowled tightly at the end to record 5 for 36 in the closing overs as Pickering were dismissed for 164.
