Pre-season win for Pikes

PICKERING Town kicked off their pre-season programme with a visit to Hutton Cranswick on Thursday last week and won 2-0 with a goal each from Alex Willgrass and Gavin Dickinson.

On Friday, the Pikes are at home to York City Intermediates, kick-off 7.30pm, and on Tuesday, July 29, they are at home again to Spennymoor United, kick-off 7.30pm.

This game will bring back memories of the mammoth games with Spennymoor in the league in 1993, when the Pikes finished a close second to their opponents in the league championship. Spennymoor are now managed by Alex Mathie, the former Newcastle United, Ipswich Town and York City player, who had a couple of ten-minute outings for the Pikes last season.

An induction day for all players wishing to play for Pickering Town juniors next season takes place this Saturday at the Recreation Club, Pickering, from 10am to 3pm. Set to be an annual event, it will be an opportunity for players to sign on for the club, find out about fixtures and training sessions and meet coaches. The day is also a chance for parents and carers to find out more about the club. Juniors who register will receive a Pickering Town card which qualifies them for discounts at certain local sports-related companies. They can also pick up a 'food for football' leaflet, giving advice on healthy eating.

The juniors also have an AGM at the recreation club on Monday at 7.30pm.
