New NFU man

ONE of the NFU's newest appointments in North Yorkshire is looking forward to the challenge of swapping the car industry for CAP reform and other farming concerns.

Darren Felgate has taken on the role of an NFU assistant group secretary, dividing his time between the Kirkbymoorside and Malton offices.

The 23-year-old, who lives with his wife in Fridaythorpe, will be on hand to offer help and advice to farmers and the wider rural community of Ryedale.

Growing up in North Yorkshire Darren, has always had close connections with the farming industry - from working on a chicken farm as a youngster to taking up employment with Sleightholmes Agricultural Engineers after leaving Sixth Form College.

More recently, Darren turned worked in the automobile industry, first as a parts supervisor for Dixon Renault on York's Clifton Moor and then Barkers Peugeot in Malton.

He said: "My new role in the NFU will be totally different to my previous job ... but one I am very much looking forward to.

"As assistant group secretary I'll be helping farmers out and offering advice, and I would say to anyone with problems feel free to give us a call at the Malton and Kirkbymoorside offices or come down and see us."
