Read our weekly round-up from the Ryedale Beckett League here.

Division One

Brawby 106 for 5 beat

Pickering 71 for 7 by 35 runs

Sam Thackray (54 not out) was in top form and was the one Brawby batsmen who excelled. Mark Shepherd bowled economically, taking 1 for 10. Other wicket takers were Robbie Thackray (1 for 22), Tim Hodgson (1 for 23) and Sean Stuchbery (1 for 31). Pickering started badly as Mark Fairweather took 3 for 20, well supported by John Crowe (2 for 10). Shepherd hit 28 but it was not enough as current champions Pickering slumped to their first defeat.

Harome 137 for 5 beat

Cropton 132 for 5 by 5 runs

With Harome batting first, Cropton made a great start as Kev Wilson caught Dave Greenlay off Jason Feaster from the first ball. Phil Marwood made 40 and Jodie Robson a quick fire 43, with Craig Aconley the pick of the Cropton bowlers with 3 for17. In reply, Cropton's opener Kev Wilson made 84 until he was brilliantly caught by Andy Marley in the last over. Stephen Dodsworth took the Harome bowling honours with 3 for 30.

Malton and Old Malton 145 for 5

beat Hovingham 87 for 5 by 58 runs

Malton's Kirk Powell (64) and Danny Foxton (45 not out) made good progress with some big hitting. One poor Hovingham bowler had Powell dropped in the first ball of an over and then had Foxton dropped on his fourth ball of the same over. Rich Brown took 2 for 32 and Simone Gill 2 for 31. Powell also excelled with the ball, conceding four runs off his two overs. Rich Brown gave Hovingham something to cheer with a quick-fire 52. Chris Bringham ended with 2 for 17.

Malton and Old Malton 165 for 4 beat

Brawby 80 for 6 by 85 runs

Excellent batting by Australian Dave Nankervis (78), well supported by Andy Raines (32 not out), set Malton a match-winning total. Tight bowling ensured Brawby never got going, Tony Linsley taking 3 for 8 in his four overs. Mark Fairweather hit four sixes in the final over on his way to 35 not out.

Duncombe Park 73 for 0

beat Lockton 71 for 6 by 10 wkts

Lockton lost Andy Hill in the first over - a wicket maiden from Peter Richardson. They continued to struggle as Peter Richardson had Chris Nichols caught in his second over for seven. Les Welburn (17) and D Russell (10) threatened but both were run out by Peter Richardson and Peter Humpleby respectively. Peter Kent returned 2 for 12 in his first bowl of the season. When Park batted, J Boyes opened with a maiden (a rare thing in this league for each innings to open with maidens). After a slow start, the remaining 61 runs came in just 5.1 overs, Humpleby making 52 not out, in just 26 balls, and Alex Boyle 21 not out.

Division Two

Kirkbymoorside 105 for 3 beat

Nawton Grange 101 for 5 by 7 wkts

Kirkbymoorside, who were relegated last season, made it three wins out of three to go top. Kirkby's Howard Mudd and Neil Ward were rested to give youngsters Dave Gardner (3 for 23) and Phil Ward (1 for 20) a chance. Nawton's James Thompson (34 not out) and John Holmes (18) scored valuable runs. Saturday tailenders Mudd and Ward put on 70 for the opening wicket in reply, Ward making 42 and Mudd 27. Nawton's Darren Palmer showed promise, taking 2 for 20.

Swinton 113 for 4 beat

Burythorpe 108 for 5 by 5 runs

Swinton scored only ten runs from their first five overs against Brian Aconley's tight bowling, who conceded four runs from his three overs. The tempo was raised through Will Lund (26 not out), Shane Bonser (25) and Bob Horsman (25). Burythorpe required 60 from the final four overs with six wickets left and looked to have little chance. But Andy Milner smashed eight sixes in making 80. With 24 needed from the final over, Milner struck three sixes from the first six balls. But needing six to win from two balls, Bonser caught and bowled Milner from a full toss, making it a candidate for catch of the season and winning the game for Swinton. Will Lund took 3 for 15.

Settrington 118 for 5 beat

Malton and Old Malton II 110 for 9 by 8 runs

Settrington's openers put on 45 before Stephen Beal was out for 18. George Rounthwaite hit a majestic 60. Lester Parkin's slow left-arm was effective as he picked up 2 for 22. Malton got off to a flying start until youngster Tristan Midgeley took a fantastic catch on the boundary to dismiss Jonny Dunning. Jimmy Baxter then struck a powerful 41 as Malton looked to be cruising. But two wickets fell with 28 needed from four overs. A triple wicket maiden from seasoned campaigner Jonty Rounthwaite (3 for 19) ended Malton's hopes. Andrew Taylor took 2 for 27.

Ampleforth 92 for 4 beat

Whitwell 71 all out by 11 runs

Despite an early wicket for Whitwell, a good second-wicket stand between Houghton (36 not out) and Crattoreah (30) set Whitwell 93. The home side's best bowlers were Jim Fisher (1 for 13) and Will Barber (1 for 17). Thompson (5 for 13) ripped through the Whitwell batting. A cameo partnership between Andy Smith (17) and James Nellis (15) gave Whitwell hope but, once they were out, they didn't threaten. M Ellis took 2 for 13.

Whitwell 85 for 3 beat

Swinton and Broughton 84 for 7 by 7 wkts

Slow running between the wickets cost Swinton runs. W Lund (33 not out) and Bob Horsman (17) ensured they reached a reasonable score. S Duff took 4 for 19 and J Fisher 2 for 24. Whitwell also started slow but Chris Creber, with an undefeated 34, and W Browne (33) saw Whitwell home.

Division Three

Thornton-le-Dale 74 for 3

beat Ryedale 73 for 9 by 7 wkts

Dale's bowlers were on top form as Lee Oliver starred with bat and ball. Oliver took 2 for 11 and R Hall chipped in with 2 for 16. Only Mick Temple (20) managed double figures for Ryedale. A fourth-wicket partnership between James Spencer (26 not out) and Lee Oliver (26 not out) saw Dale to an easy win. R Boddy bowled well for the visitors, recording 2 for 19.

Duncombe Park II 84 all out

beat Thornton-le-Dale 77 for 7 by 7 runs

Thanks to Matty Harding (32), Park set a target of 84 for Dale. Lee Oliver (3 for 12) and R Hall (4 for 28) impressed with the ball. In reply, Dale had no answer to Rob Harding, who conceded just ten runs and took four wickets in his four overs.

Wombleton 121 for 9 beat

Great Habton 67 for 6 by 54 runs

N Watson (37) and C Collier (30) scored the bulk of the runs for Wombleton. Habton's best bowlers were Alan Goforth (4 for 30) and Matthew Bulmer (3 for 28). In reply, Habton strugggled, especially against P Wilson (3 for 9).

Heslerton 96 beat Westow 95

Tight opening bowling from A Slaughter, J Duffill (2 for 37) and A Shields (3 for 24) pegged Westow back. A Aitken (41), aided by R Welford saw Westow to 95. Powerful batting from D Gallagher (53 not out) supported by A Shields (19 not out) saw Heslerton home.
