REGARDING the young ladies' letter about bigotry, I'd like to say that, although I don't know the 'Orangemen' personally, I do know them because I enjoy a drink on Sunday afternoons in the clubs and pubs of Norton, and am often in contact with them.
I am not a religious man, but I do know that the Orangemen are the Protestants and support Rangers, whilst most of the Catholics support Celtic. Far from the scenario that the young ladies portray, the Orangemen can be found every week, sat at the table drinking together, laughing and joking with thier Celtic friends and the local
Irishmen that gather there too, which is hardly bigoted.
I have not yet seen any trouble caused by the orangemen or their Celtic friends. I am sure that the local landlords of Norton would deny strongly that their pub was pro or anti any religion, they must be mistaken.
My advice is that the vast majority of Norton are not interested in this
petty squable, and to live and let live. I for one quite enjoyed the procession. I have to agree with one of the comments I overheard from the Orangemen, and that is "the only people complaining of bigotry are the
Catholics themselves." I think we have heard enough on this subject now.
