Students discover the world of work

STUDENTS following the vocational course at Malton School have received certificates from York Training Services.

Students on the Way to Work course spent one day per week at a work placement during Years 10 and 11 at school, in addition to more normal GCSE courses in school on the other days. All 12 of them have now secured either a college placement, an apprenticeship or employment for next year.

The trainers and organisers involved with the course selected one student of the year, and this year's award was made to Gemma Piercy, who has been working at the Topiary Tree in Malton. Gemma received a prize of a florist's toolkit from Topiary Tree's Gemma Magson. Gemma who is aged 16, lives in Malton.

Course organiser Jane Wilford said: "I am so proud of all the students this year. They really have matured during the course, and deserve to do well in their future careers."
