Stop whingeing about aircraft

REGARDING recent letters concerning noise levels of Tucano aircraft in Ryedale. Gill Freeman (Gazette & Herald April 16) seems to think that as soon as the Iraq problem is over it will be quite appropriate to stop training pilots for the RAF, and presumably scrap all existing aircraft, and put the defence of this country at risk, not to mention the loss of thousands of jobs across the country.

In this increasingly dangerous world we live in, the actions of people like this setting up campaigns against the RAF (H O Griffiths, April 8) would seem to me to be against national security and a highly-irresponsible move. Yes, aircraft are noisy, but if pilots are to be trained to the highest standards, this may mean a little inconvenience to some local people, and the sooner they accept this and stop whingeing the better.
