Cass header enough to clinch junior trophy

Mitchell League Under-9s 2A Final

Pickering Town 1 Copmanthorpe 0

Pickering gained sweet revenge on their rivals, who had already taken the league title and the Pickering Tournament.

In a very competitive game, both sides battled hard but Pickering's determination was the difference.

Ryan Diuga made a strong run through the defence and held the ball up well for the supporting Matty Allison, who squared the ball across the box for Eddie Cass to fire home to the delight of his team-mates.

The defensive duo of Mark Williams and Liam Hartas worked hard in the second half as Copmanthorpe pressed for the equaliser.

Keeper Sam Myers produced some fine saves and captain Jack Riley cleared off the line in the last minute as Pikes held on for a much-deserved victory.

In the under-10s, Pickering Town secured a double success over Poppleton. In the Division 2B final, the Pikes won 4-2 on penalties after drawing 1-1 at full-time with a Jordan Rivis goal. Keeper Luke McLaren saved two penalties in the shoot-out.

In the Division 2A final, a pair of goals from Johnny Birbeck and Lyle King secured victory for Pickering, completing a league and cup double.
