DERWENT YF
ON Sunday, March 16, members of Derwent YFC held their annual fundraising 'muck chuck', selling farmyard manure to unsuspecting residents of Stamford Bridge. They met bright and early, too early for some, and those members who took part had an excellent day, raising £155 towards club funds.
Following on from the club's success, it organised an antiques roadshow at Gate Helmsley village hall on Tuesday, March 25. Members of the public brought along a variety of valuable, and not so valuable, pieces. The antiques were kindly valued on the day by Mr Chris Clubbley. The club made £106.68 and everyone went away pleased with their valuations.
The club would like to thank all those who contributed and offered their support towards these two events. Not only did the club raise just over £260 towards club funds, everyone who took part had a great time.
For more details about Derwent YFC, contact James Walker, club chairman, on (01653) 618184. New members are always welcome.
RILLINGTON YF
Clubbing around took care of Tuesday's meeting, April 1, when members visited Snainton golf driving range. Stuart Maw was a natural with his aim to produce a hole-in-one. However, it was thought within the club that he needed to brush up on his technique. Sorry to Stuart's mum and dad, your son always seems to be in the firing range. I wonder why.
Oh just a little note: paint brushes primed, aprons pressed and a fire extinguisher at the ready for the unexpected welding mishap - or was that just this correspondent's project?! Ladies and gents, let's get motivated, rally in three weeks.
RYEDALE AND DISTRICT YF
An electric election of officers was top of the agenda on the evening of Thursday, April 3. Yes, it came round to that time of the year once again where Ryedale and District young farmers held their AGM. A not-so-prompt start of 7.30pm (well, going on 8.05pm) saw Rosie Harrison continuing her role as president for the district, much appreciated by all members.
Ian Teasdale ('Nuffy') stays as chairman, although his past 12-month sidekick Matthew Rogers' ('Buck') secretarial duties are now in the hands of Sarah Waterworth. Thanks to Buck for his time and effort that he's put into this role. I am sure that he'll now see a decrease in his phone bill! However, best wishes to Sarah in her forthcoming year in office.
Vice-chairmen are Andy Wilson and Stuart Maw. Treasurer Rachael Scaling, sports secretary Richard Bell, press secretary, Victoria Coupe.
A reminder to all keen stock judges that some of the dates have changed.
April 13: Pony judging 2pm at Mrs Welburn's, Winlea Farm, Snainton.
April 14: Ewe and lamb judging, 7pm at Mr Jackson's, Sykes Farm, East Ayton.
April 15, Dairy judging, 7pm at Chris Stockdale's, Carr House Farm, Allerston.
Could all participating members please arrive in plenty of time so that a prompt start can be made? Thank you.
Fancy something different for a Sunday evening? Club officer training, Sunday, April 13, 6pm, to be held at the Calley Arms, Allerston. Open to all members.
