Second-round blip sends Simon home

IN what was Simon Dyson's last tournament in the southern hemisphere before returning home, the Malton and Norton star was left ruing a bad start to his second round which left him one shot from making the half-way cut in the Qatar Masters last week.

After a sizzling start to his opening round, which saw him four under after ten holes, Dyson carded a two-under 70 to leave him just four shots off the lead. The round, which had been postponed until the second day because of a vicious sandstorm over the Doha course, included an eagle at the par-four 16th. But the 25-year-old then dropped four shots in the opening six holes of his second round to end up with a 76 and miss out on the cut by one.

South African Darren Fichardt won the event in a play-off from fellow countryman James Kingston. Dyson has some time off now until his next tournament in Portugal on April 17.
