With a song in their hearts

NORTH Yorkshire schoolgirls sing when they're winning - and their skills have landed them places on a prestigious choir.

Emma Lightwing, from Warthill, and Emma Jane Goodwill, from Terrington, sang their hearts out to get into the Yorkshire Youth Choir.

Places were limited for the 100-strong group, and the two girls, both pupils at Terrington Hall School, faced tough auditions.

Emma Lightwing's mum Carolyn said: "There's been a Yorkshire Youth Orchestra for quite a few years but this is quite a new venture.

"It was quite an extensive audition with two prepared pieces and different aural tests, competing against people from across the whole of Yorkshire."

The pair will get the chance to have specialist training for their roles in the choir of 100 voices, including coaching from Chris Mallinson, BBC choirmaster of the year.

Mrs Lightwing added: "They have both loved singing since they were little, and they sing all the time - including in the bath."
