Club raises funds for hospice

ONE of the oldest branches of the Young Farmers Club movement, Snainton, is still going strong after more than half a century.

Despite the downturn in farming, the group, which formed 54 years ago, still has 30 members who meet each Monday night at Snainton village hall.

Vice-president Catherine Cussons, a former club leader, said its membership area stretches along the Vale of Pickering and south to Staxton and Muston.

The members take part in a wide range of competitions, many focusing on rural life and agriculture. The YFC has proved a good training ground for young people in running meetings and their administration, said Mrs Cussons.

Part of the activities involves raising funds and the Snainton members are pictured here with a cheque they presented to St Catherine's Hospice.

On April 26, the Snainton YFC and other clubs in the Ryedale area are staging their annual YFC rally, at Spiker's Hill farm, West Ayton.
