Ryedale Council came up trumps

COULD we please use your letters column to express our thanks to Ryedale District Council for organising and funding the pumping station in Norton Road. We appreciate this has come in for a lot of criticism, ie the length of time the road was closed, supposedly not big enough pumps, but to us and our immediate neighbours this has proved to be a brilliant solution to our flooding problems.

On December 30 last year the river was rising and we got a flood warning. After an anxious couple of hours while the teething problems with the pumps were sorted out, we all breathed a sigh of relief when the pumps kicked in and the drains in the road and the culvert had receded. The pumps did their job the whole time the river was high. There is no doubt whatsoever that without the pumps we, and our neighbours, would once again have been having a very wet and miserable New Year with our houses waterlogged.

We would also like to thank Mr Dave Summers, Joe Kent and men from Ryedale depot who gave up their Christmas holidays to once again make sure we were OK and to keep us informed as to how things were progressing.

Ryedale Council normally receives criticism but for us they came up trumps.
