Wins see Swinton gain upper hand

WITH three big wins over Whitby (10-0), Ryedale SC D (10-0) and Coneysthorpe B (8-2), Swinton A have regained the top spot in division one. Ryedale SC A are now second with two games in hand.

Scarborians A have finally notched a win. They entertained Ryedale SC D and won 8-2. Ryedale's Alan Kirkwood scored an impressive win over Scarborians' skipper Steve Miller 17-21, 21-16, 21-17. Ryedale's other score of the evening was from the improving Jean Wardman as she defeated big-hitting Nigel Hopkinson 15-21, 21-19, 21-13.

Whitby won 7-3 at Ryedale SC C as player of the week John Hanson starred for the visitors, not dropping a game. For Ryedale, John Gascoyne (2) and Ken Pidgeon (1) scored points, whilst Whitby's other scorers were Mike Purvis (2) and Stuart Brown (1).

The experienced Coneysthorpe B side of Eddie Prest, John Foxton and the evergreen Terry Adams beat Ryedale SC C 6-4 at home. Eddie Prest was in sparkling form, winning his three singles, supported well by Adams (2) and Foxton (1). The returning Reg Cammage chalked up one win for Ryedale. Team-mate John Gascoyne won twice and he and Ken Pidgeon took the doubles 25-23, 21-15.

Just one point separates Amotherby A and Ryedale Laundry A at the top of division two. The meeting between these two unbeaten sides is eagerly-awaited.

Geoff Harrison was the hero for Helmsley CPS B, winning his three singles in style as his side beat Scarborians B 6-4. Helmsley's John Parkinson chipped in with two wins. Graham Izzard recorded two wins for the Scarborough side. Ryedale SC F returned to winning ways with a defeat of Coneysthorpe 6-4. Coneysthorpe's Danny Foxton won his singles including a 6-21, 21-15, 23-21 win over Ryedale's Andy Paton. John Tall from Ryedale scored two wins.

Amotherby B drew 5-5 at home to Ryedale Laundry B, with Paul Young winning three times for the visitors.
