HORSE riders in Ryedale have launched a new group to promote safe, fun riding in the countryside.
Ryedale Bridleways Group aims to work with landowners and the county council to ensure all rights of way are up to scratch.
Too often, the group says, riders are forced on to dangerous roads because bridleways are blocked. Other paths have been ploughed out or become overgrown. Group volunteers want to help get all rights of way opened and maintained.
Ryedale Bridleways Group is the third group of its kind to form in North Yorkshire. Harrogate and North Wolds groups are already thriving.
Secretary Liz Newbronner said: "Ryedale is a beautiful district that has wonderful horse-riding country. We want to ensure that both local riders and visitors can enjoy our bridleways for years to come."
The group is to hold its inaugural meeting in January. Membership costs £5 a year.
Liz can be contacted on (01751) 432397.
The Gazette & Herald would be pleased to publish reports, promote upcoming events and results of competitions from all riding groups in the district. Please send details: by post to Gazette & Herald Horsetales, PO Box 29, 76-86 Walmgate, York YO1 9YN; e-mail to gazette@ycp.co.uk; or fax to (01904) 672371.
