MALTON and Norton will not be the only side aiming for another Twickenham triumph when they travel to Bradford Salem this Saturday in the last 16 of the Powergen Junior Vase.
Their West Yorkshire opponents from Yorkshire Three also tasted glory at the famous stadium during the mid-90s, winning the Vase on two successive occasions.
But whilst the current Malton squad still contains heroes from that memorable day back in April 2001, such as Tim Chapman and Chris Creber, around half of it was not present at the Twickenham final.
Coach Bill Laidler said that players such as Andy Mitchell, Will Barber, Duncan Foster and James McKay, who have joined the fray since then, have got "the bug" and are hungry for a slice of cup success themselves.
While Malton and Norton have won their last three encounters against Salem, Laidler admitted they were taking nothing for granted. "On form, we are the favourites but you never know in the cup. It should be very even in the pack but hopefully our backs can make the difference."
Laidler said that everyone in the squad was playing well, with the recent return of David Cooke adding particular strength to the pack.
