YOUNG swimmers got the recognition they deserved at West Heslerton Primary School recently.
The children in Key Stage 2 were presented with the swimming badges they had gained this term, as well as a certificate.
Badges were awarded as follows: Octopus I - Joanna Booker, Charlotte Martinson, Jade Dukes, Luke Armsby, Jonathan Duffill and Josephine Watson; 5m - Daniel Baines, Frankie Beal and Caroline Martinson; 10m - Stephen Watson, Jake Handley, Leanne Pickering, Kate Ferguson, Hollie Stones, Sarah Lumley, Alex Carrie and Sara Parker; 25m - Kate Ferguson, Hollie Stones, Jack Bradshaw, Sara Parker, Emily Molloy, Christina Skitt, Jessica Greenwell, Hannah Carpenter, Luke Walker, Peter Render, Jenny Lee-Bromley, Ben Hall and Holly Blyth; 50m - Thomas Parsons and Lucinda Thornton; 200m - Charlie Mason, Matthew Marucci, Hannah Clay, Daniel Burns, William Ashton and Danny Bailey; 250m - Jenny Hyde; 400m - Tom Benthall, Jodie Dickinson, Bethany Wharton, Adam Duffill and Sam Bradshaw; 500m - Charlie Ward; Angel Fish I (survival award) Jono Trowsdale, Tom Benthall, Jamie Munro, Anthony Stones, Danny Bailey, Jodie Dickinson, Adam Duffill, Sam Bradshaw, Matthew Marucci, Emily Triffitt, Graham Mills, Florence Spaven, James Taylor and Louise Milner.
Pupils from the school also took part in a benchball tournament at Pickering recently, where they drew two games and lost two "against much taller opposition", according to headteacher Rachel Wells.
Captained by Emily Triffitt, the other team members were Mathew Webster, Stephen Watson, William Ashton, Danny Bailey, Adam Duffill, Jodie Dickinson, Louise Milner and Bethany Wharton.
The fruits of summer were on display at West Heslerton primary school recently - as pupils were presented with prizes they earned at the local agricultural show in 2002.
Heslerton Show was held during the summer holidays, but it wasn't until recently that the children who won prizes at the show were able to claim them.
First prizes, for either artwork or handwriting, were claimed by Jordan Mallon, Emily Manning, Kate Ferguson, Sarah Lumley, Hannah Clay, Emily Triffitt and Ben Richardson, while runners-up spots were earned by Jacob Headley, Zoe Mitchell, Frankie Beal, Jack Bradshaw, Daniel Burns and Thomas Milner. Third-place spots were claimed by Joe Marucci, Becky Munro, Emily Molloy, Jenny Hyde, Lucinda Thornton and Jenny Lee-Bromley.
Headteacher Rachel Wells handed out the certificates at school assemblies.
Several members of staff also received certificates, this time for completing a first aid training course. The staff members were Mrs Woodward, Mrs Coram, Mrs White, Mrs Milner and Mrs Triffitt.
Pupil Christina Skitt was also in the spotlight, earning an her 25m backstroke award.
During the summer, the school held a fun horse ride which raised over £300 for funds. Bridget Benthall and Sue Mason were thanked for all their hard work.
Another fundraising effort saw a sponsored walk being organised. Sarah Lumley, Alex Carrie, Sara Parker, Luke Walker, Emily Triffitt, Hannah Clay, Joe Marucci, Leanne Towse, Marianne Parrott and Alison Milner were all awarded certificates for taking part.
The school also raised £13 for the St Catherine's Hospice sunflower appeal and over £34 for the McMillan coffee morning.
