KIRKBYMOORSIDE'S Mark Harrison recorded his first major trials victory since breaking his leg in a motocross crash almost two years ago, winning the Eboracum MC Luxembourg Trophy Trial on New Year's Day.
Eboracum switched the event from Warthill, near York, to the testing woodland sections of Simon Gill's fine acres in Great Ouseburn, near Boroughbridge.
Mark, who is a heating engineer, was the top rider ahead of fellow motocrosser Martin Craven, from Doncaster. The win was accompanied by the coveted Luxembourg Trophy, one of Eboracum's top winter trial awards. Malton's Vicky Ellis rode the trial, and did the results later, beating the crafty campaigner John Kendrew in the process.
Gill's acres and that testing plantation with its stream and very greasy climbs, tested all classes. The beck was deep and the exits up the banks very tricky. In fact, the wet slabs on the hillside were cleaned only by Thomas Hick, of York, and Harrison.
Section five was a flying job over concrete pipes, as only those with no nerves completed the double jump.
Youths Thomas Hick, Guy Kendrew (Northallerton) and Richard Kendra (Pocklington) were sharp, as was top intermediate Matt Sharp (Bridlington).
Gordon Richard (Sussex) was the best Clubman A followed by Malcolm Tennant, from Richmond. The roots at nine foiled all but Neil Gaunt (Harrogate) and Jonathon Frost (Helmsley), while Thomas Hick stepped up his hold on runner-up overall with four good rides as the conditions deteriorated.
Bevan Blacker took Youth D and handled his small-wheeled TY 80 very well in view of the muddy backdrop.
