Trophies galore for Ben

PICKERING teenager Ben Thompson continued his impressive rise towards the top of the local motocross circuit last season, picking up two class B club championship titles, a glut of trophies and gaining his expert licence.

Thompson, son of the former East Yorkshire motocross champion, Adrian, won 25 times over the year, which saw him clinch the Scarborough District Motor Club and Whitby DMC class B crowns.

"The season has gone very well, better than I expected," said 18-year-old Thompson, who is an apprentice joiner. "I never thought I would win two championships."

His success brought him a staggering 27 trophies, including the Nashcross Trophy, which he won for being the highest Pickering DMC points scorer in the East Yorkshire centre championship.

And Thompson, who rides a Honda 250cc, put the icing on the cake by securing his expert licence after earning sufficient points over five meetings, enabling him to compete at the highest possible level.

Now he has his sights set on gaining some expert class wins next season, which starts in March, and hopefully earning a sponsorship deal. He may also enter the British under-21 championships.

Thompson is also enjoying success on another sporting front. He is part of Beckett League football team, Pickering Royal Oak, who currently have won all their division two league games so far this season.
