Bridget celebrates plum prize for art

PAINTER Bridget Gillespie has been awarded a gold medal for her work after wowing Royal Horticultural Society judges with her fruity illustrations.

Bridget, who lives in Helmsley, stole the show with 14 portraits of the plum family, as found in the orchards of Ampleforth Abbey and Newby Hall, as well as the gardens of personal friends.

Judges were so impressed by her work two of the paintings will now hang in the society's gallery. All remaining 12 pictures were also sold.

Now the mother of two will be sharing the fruits of her success with fellow artists in a series of two-day art workshops at the Helmsley Walled Garden on April 29, 30, May 19, 20, June 21, 22, July 9, 10, August 20, 21, September 6, 7 and October 8 and 9.

An exhibition of her work is also being shown at the Look Gallery, in Castlegate, Helmsley. For more information, phone 01439 771427.
