BURGLARS forced their way into a farm outbuilding to steal two saddles worth £600.
The intruders used some kind of implement to get into the locked building on Green Dyke Lane, Slingsby, sometime between 8am and 7.45pm on Monday.
Sgt Mick Pounder, of Malton Police, said a number of suspicious vehicles had been spotted in the area.
He urged members of the public to get in touch with North Yorkshire Police if they were worried about any motorists acting strangely.
"There are a lot of people travelling around sussing out places," he said.
"They are basically looking round to see if there is anything that is worth stealing.
"They may be driving slowly and pretending to be lost, and we would ask just for people to be on their guard.
"If they see anything remotely suspicious, such as vans paying close attention to property, they should give us a ring."
Anyone who sees what they believe is a suspicious vehicle is asked to phone police on 01653 692424.
