Schools plan is shelved

PLANS for two North Yorkshire school to collaborate and share facilities have been shelved.

Proposals were announced in September for Queen Mary's School in Topcliffe, near Thirsk, and Cundall Manor, in Helperby, to team up.

But investigations into the proposals found there were more disadvantages than advantages.

A spokesperson for Queen Mary's said: "Unfortunately, as our talks progressed it became clear that the partnership was not going to work as well as we had both hoped so it has been decided to maintain the status quo. I am sure there will be occasions when the schools work together but this will not be on the more formal basis originally envisaged."

Former joint principals Peter and Felicity Belward will return to Queen Mary's temporarily following the retirement of Ian and Margaret Angus.
