50 years for Roger at Thackray & Son

AT Brawby, management and staff of J Thackray and Son gathered to make a presentation to Roger and Pat Crosier, to mark 50 years of service by Mr Crosier to the firm.

He joined in 1952 as an apprentice engineer, after spending two years at Scarborough College, though he told me he had really wanted to be a joiner. Apart from two years which he spent in National Service, Mr Crosier has spent all of his working life at Brawby and during that time has been part of the post-war revolution which has affected farming and all the associated countryside industries.

Like all the other members of the Thackray team, he spent his early working days repairing and renovating farm machinery, which included steam engines and threshing machines, as well as harvesting machinery which was the mainstay of the business in those days. Today at Thackray's, the main emphasis is on civil engineering, while farming plays a less important role in the day-to-day work.

Mr Crosier is now a director of the firm and part of the management team at Brawby.

Presentations to mark his anniversary were made on behalf of the firm by Dolly Thackray, Allan Bradshaw and Bernard Mackley.
