Woman held after assualt on man

AN elderly woman has been detained under the Mental Health Act following an attack which left a 77-year-old man with serious head injuries.

Police said a nurse had discovered the injured man when she was called to the home of an elderly couple in Kirkbymoorside at about 9.30am yesterday.

The victim was taken to Scarborough General Hospital, where he was today poorly in the intensive care unit.

Police attended an address in Tinley Garth, and arrested a 67-year-old woman on suspicion of assault. She was taken to Malton police station where she was medically examined and subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Police are not seeking any other person in connection with this incident."

Details of the incident were only released by police late last night.
