Cat and Mouse

I'm a cat who went out hunting

And caught a little mouse.

I think I'll give it to my mum

And take it to the house.

But when I took it to the door

For mum and mouse to meet,

She took one frightened look at it

And shot into the street.

Her action took my breath away

And so I lost my prize

I saw it slip into the house

Before my very eyes.

Dad came running with a shout

To see what the fuss was all about

When mum had told him loud and clear

It must be caught before I come in here.

He chased it round and round the room

With feather duster and a broom

Up and down the walls it shot

While dad swept off mum's much-prized pot.

In the end I am sorry to say

My little mouse got clean away

I thought they would say "you clever puss",

Instead all they did was make a fuss.

So now they've shut me in the shed

I'm here until next day

But all that I can think of

Is the mouse that got away.
