"POETRY, please!" was the request from children in a little Ryedale village as the whole school held an unusual party.
All 29 pupils at Terrington Church of England School joined in the celebrations at the school's first poetry party as each of the children learned poems and nursery rhymes.
Teacher Sue Geoghegan said: "It's part of our celebration of book week, and we have been focusing on poetry.
"We wanted the children to look at all sorts of different poems, and learn them as well."
Mrs Geoghegan said the idea had been to invite other people along to join in their afternoon activities.
"We decided to hold the poetry party to make it a bit of fun, with rugs on the floor and nightlights in the classroom like a picnic, and we blew up balloons.
"Parents came along and read poems in the groups as well.
"The older ones have been doing The Highwayman, and the little ones learned nursery rhymes."
She added: "For the harvest festival, we will be adapting the idea, and some of the older people will be working with the children and reciting their favourite poems."
