Cyclists pass the test

GET on your bike was the message at one North Yorkshire primary school, so that's exactly what they did.

Children at Leavening County Primary have been hard at work on their cycling proficiency test as they cycled their way to success.

The eight year 6 pupils pedalled furiously through the road safety work and passed with flying colours, according to headteacher Lynn Markham.

She said: "I think it's really important for the children to do the test, particularly in a rural area like ours. A lot of children have their bikes and ride around in their own villages, and this is all about keeping safe at the end of the day.

"Cycling proficiency has become a tradition at the school, so as soon as the children get to ten and eleven-years-old they know that it's time to bring their bikes."
