ALMOST two decades of unsuccessful sorties to East Yorkshire came to an end in style for Malton and Norton Golf Club, thanks to two lady members, Judith Fishburn and Judy Butler.
Judith, who plays off 20, and Judy, an eight-handicapper, captured the East Yorkshire Ladies Alliance foursomes championship at Flamborough Head GC - at title the club had not won since 1983.
Notorious for its testing weather, the course was bathed in autumnal sunshine and the Malton and Norton duo revelled in the benign conditions.
They produced their best golf in the morning session when they beat semi-final opponents from Brough GC five and four.
Though the 'J' squad's display in the final against opposition from Beverley was not as fluent, the margin of victory was the same, a crushing five and four conquest.
Malton and Norton amateur Emma Duggleby was part of the Great Britain and Ireland team taking part in the World Team Championships in Kuala Lumpur, which start today and run until Saturday. Wales' Becky Brewerton and Scotland's Heather Stirling make up the side.
