A BALLOON sent from Pickering in a balloon race found its way to Bosnia.
Daniel Moss, of Pickering Community Junior School, sold the winning balloon to Mrs V Stead.
Of the 400 balloons released as part of a fundraising effort by the Friends of Pickering Junior School, seven labels were returned. All were from abroad.
When the seven locations of the returned labels were plotted on a map of Europe, the line of findings was more or less a straight line heading south-east across
Europe.
The Bosnian balloon was found by a boy called Nemanja Markovic. A British soldier helped him return the label and Andrew Clarke, headteacher at Pickering Community Junior School is arranging for a prize to be sent to Nemanja.
The winners of the race, in reverse order with location were: Netherlands - P Bellwood, Ruth Shoobridge; Germany - Nancy Harrison, Hayley Jackson, Natalie Bowes, Fiona Thompson; Austria - F Midgely, C Colley. Bosnia - V Stead.
