Harome and Malton to lock horns in final

Ryedale Beckett League Cup semi-finals Division One

HAROME and Malton and Old Malton will contest the final following wins over Pickering and Cropton respectively.

Dave Greenlay (44) held the Harome innings together against Pickering. Useful scores by Jodie Robson (28) and Graeme Strickland (29 not out) saw Harome to 123 for 4.

Colin Frank replied with 36 out of the first 52 runs for Pickering before being caught. But after this, the Pikes began to struggle and finished nine short. Dave Greenlay's 2 for 26 made him man of the match.

Malton got off to a great start against Cropton with Ben Nicholson (41) and Andy Raines (22) in full flow. But a good spell from Craig Aconley of 4 for 24 restricted Malton to 124 for 7. A great catch from Stephen Baxter dismissed Craig Aconley for one and, despite a mini-fightback, Danny Foxton (2 for 19) and Tony Linsley (5 for 10) saw a demoralised Cropton fall short of the target at 78 for 8.

Division Two

Whitwell defeated Brawby and now they must wait until the match between Hovingham and Settrington is played to see who they meet in the final.

Brawby lost wickets on a regular basis after a good opening spell by Harrison (1 for 10) plugged them back. Witterneen (3 for 23) and Chris Goodwill (2 for 22) also did the damage. A fifth-wicket partnership of 38 between Andrew Mitchell (26) and Mark Fairweather (20) helped Brawby to 97 all out.

A fine opening spell of 3 for 9 from John Crowe restricted Whitwell, but it was not enough to prevent Brawby slipping to a two-wicket defeat. Freer carried his bat for 38 not out and Ryan (32) gave excellent support.

Division Three

Thornton-le-Dale got the better of Westow whilst Swinton and Broughton beat Heslerton.

Thornton bowlers Tom Spencer (2 for 14) and Pete Lockwood (1 for 22) kept the Westow batting in check. Steve Frazer top-scored with 40 as Westow finished on 105 for 6. A fine stand between Will Anderson (48 not out) and Colin Pickering (33 not out) saw Dale to an eight-wicket win with an over to spare.

Swinton and Broughton dismissed Heslerton for 68, with Lund taking 4 for 7, to set up a six-wicket win.
