One-way system for Pickering

A NEW one-way system for Goslipgate and Firthlands Road, Pickering has been brought forward.

Before the end of the month Goslipgate will be one way only from Southgate A170. Traffic will be one way in the first section of Firthlands Road, becoming two-way where the road rejoins Goslipgate.

The present two-way junction with Goslipgate and the A170 Southgate Road is a difficult turning.

The turning into and out of Firthlands Road from Goslipgate is also a poor junction.

Traffic manager Tony Wright said the new one-way scheme would be a temporary installation to start with.

It would be made permanent depending on what North Yorkshire County Councillors decide at their next area committee meeting on June 26.

County council officers decided to bring forward the one-way scheme after local residents expressed their concerns about the danger about road safety.

The development includes a new footpath.

To help make the two junctions even safer, the county council is consulting locally about the prohibiting of parking in the new one-way system.

Once the local consultation process has bee completed, the proposals will be amended accordingly, where possible, to take account of the feedback from residents.
