Youngsters have designs on waste reduction

YOUNGSTERS aged 7-11 across North Yorkshire have taken part in a competition to design a poster to encourage people to 'Reduce, Re-use and Recycle' waste.

The competition was organised by the county council and North Yorkshire's Schools Waste Action Club (SWAC).

The winning poster was designed by James Neale, 10, from Boroughbridge County Primary School, who won a wind-up radio and his school £250.

The 19 runners-up also won prizes and they included entries from Leavening, Newby and Scalby, and St Hilda's, Whitby.

Coun John Fort, North Yorkshire's executive member for environmental services, said: "All the posters entered were very good and it was hard to choose the finalists and the winner."
