Tribute to crash victim

THE parents of a 17-year-old who was killed when his car left a road and collided with a tree have paid tribute to their son.

Peter Allsopp, of Pickering, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened on an unclassified road between Newton-on-Rawcliffe and Pickering, on Sunday.

A statement released through North Yorkshire Police said: "Peter was a friendly, kindly and helpful person, always with a smile on his face and not a bad word to say about anyone. We are all very proud of what Peter has achieved since moving to the area, getting credits and distinctions in his exams and course work at the Yorkshire Coast College, also in getting himself a job and a career as a trainee chef."

A spokesman from the Yorkshire Coast College, in Scarborough, said Peter was a top student. "He moved to the area with his family from Doncaster in November, so started his one-year catering course late," he said. "Peter did very well to catch up, he produced some outstanding work and had a perfect attendance record. His fellow students are devastated."
