Pupils bridge the gap to world of work

STUDENTS at a Ryedale school got a taste of life in the big wide world by signing up to a vocational training course.

Thirteen GCSE students from Lady Lumley's School, in Pickering, completed the Bridge Course, which aims to give them an insight into working life.

"The course has lasted two years and this involved them taking part in a placement with local business or industry," said deputy head teacher Trevor Boag.

"By completing the course they will have some practical experience which they will be able to use to their advantage when they apply for jobs."

To celebrate their success the students attended a celebration event with staff from the York Training Centre.
