History sails back into Whitby harbour

A WORLD-famous and much-loved replica warship has returned to a North Yorkshire seaside town.

The Grand Turk, which first achieved international fame when it starred in the hit TV series Hornblower as HMS Indefatigable, docked at Whitby last week. as part of a UK, French and Belgian tour. It is due to feature in the film Monsieur 'M', a picture based on the life of Napoleon, due to be shot on location in France in August.

The vessel was in Whitby last year and since then a string of appearances on film, at festivals and on tour have established its public popularity.

The ship, launched in 1997, is based on an 18th-early 19th century fighting frigate.

The Grand Turk is open to the public every day until June 14. Admission is £4, £3 concessions and £2 under-15s. Family tickets (for two adults and three children) are £10.

This is a great month for fans of old sailing ships for the Endeavour is due to sail into Whitby on June 21 for a seven-week stay.
