No ace for nine years - then two at once!

It has been nine years since a lady member of Kirkbymoorside Golf Club last scored a hole-in-one at the course. But now not one but two members have ended that sequence - in the same stableford competition!

Veronica Caldwell, a 25-handicapper from Malton, holed in one at the 124-yard sixth hole with a seven wood. It was her second ace since she took the game up 12 years ago.

In the same competition, Claire Dyson, from Middleton, holed in one with her very first shot - an eight iron at the 119-yard par three opening hole. It was Claire's first ace since she started playing five years ago.

Claire said: "Everyone is laughing at the club. I didn't see it go in as I don't have good eye-sight but I heard it hit the pin. My playing partners said it had gone in but it was only when I got up to the hole did I believe it had gone in."

Veronica also had to see her ball in the hole to believe it. She and her partner actually looked for the ball for a short time before deciding to check the hole!

She said: "It was a great thrill on a very unusual day. I hit the ball on line but there wsa a lot of luck involved."

The ladies didn't need to worry about their success costing them in the 19th hole. The ladies section has a special fund to ensure everyone in the bar is provided with suitable refreshment!
