HELPING breast cancer patients and organising fashion shows has earned an Amotherby woman a top award.
Barbara Dimmey, herself a patient, is vice-chairman of Friday Friends, a support and care group which operates in the Ryedale and Scarborough area to provide a meeting point for breast cancer sufferers.
"All members are cancer patients who give support to each other and those newly diagnosed," said Mrs Dimmey, who for the past two years has organised big fashion shows at The Spa, Scarborough, each of which raised £4,000. Another is being planned for October 24.
The money has been used to buy specialist equipment for cancer patients at Scarborough General Hospital.
Now Mrs Dimmey has been named joint runner-up in an area awards competition organised by Max Payne, a leading Scarborough charity worker who was awarded the MBE for his work for St Catherine's Hospice.
