Help from our friends

PUPILS at Thornton-le-Dale village school have a host of new reading books thanks to the school's Friends group which has raised £1,400.

For about19 years, the organisation has aided the school, says headteacher Colin Babister. "They usually provide the school with between £3,000 and £4,000, which we use to buy equipment and fund facilities which we would find it hard to fund out of our school budget," he said.

"The Friends are an invaluable help to the school, not only financially, but socially and give a great deal of support to us"

The 200 pupils at the school benefit from the Friends' fundraising which includes an annual Christmas coffee morning, barbecue, discos and family quiz nights, said class teacher Sarah Helm.
