Double success for Lauren

BURYTHORPE youngster Lauren Gibson has become a double British champion at the tender age of five.

Her success came at the British Show Pony Society winter championships in Rochdale last weekend on her palamino pony, Dukeshill Madonna.

Having qualified for the finals, she walked away with first prize in the Mountain and Moorland Heritage Lead Rein competition at the Talk of the North Arena at Birchinley Manor. She followed this up by triumphing in the open competition to qualify for the summer championships in Peterborough in August.

Not content with this, Lauren, who is a pupil at Langton County Primary School, also won two class victories in the minis section.

Her mother, Kerry, said: "It is a dream come true for her."

Lauren is not the only one to enjoy equine success in the family. Her grandmother, Sheila Austin, was a successful racehorse trainer until she retired five years ago. She was in charge of the Burythorpe House stable, which trained six-time hurdle winner Troodos.
