A castle for an abbey

A RYEDALE woman has left the peace and tranquillity of Rievaulx Abbey behind her in her latest job swap. English Heritage custodian Janet Smith has moved on from the beautiful ruins to take up her post at the battlements of Scarborough Castle.

Mrs Smith said: "It's really going to be a new challenge because the sites are so different. All the sites are just so lovely, and I think whichever one I am lucky enough to work at will be great."

Mrs Smith said she hoped a few of Rievaulx's more well-known visitors might pop in for a visit. She said: "While I was there we had a private visit from Prince Charles, which was absolutely wonderful, it was really special."
