Scarborough and District League
Kirkbymoorside entertained local rivals Ryedale Sports Club on Monday evening in a key first division battle.
Both teams needed to win and it was Ryedale Sports Club who beat the Moorsiders 1-0, their fourth victory against the Moorsiders this season, twice in the league and cup victories in the FA District Cup and John Bamford Memorial Cup.
Ryedale had skipper Heath Brown harshly cautioned after ten minutes. The Moorsiders should have taken the lead after 20 minutes, but Lee Alexander volleyed straight at Ryedale's keeper, Rob Campbell.
Ryedale took the lead ten minutes before half-time. Richard Holtby took a perfect corner and it was met by a diving, bullet header by Jason Hodgson. Ben Richardson was superb for Ryedale, causing the Moorsiders endless problems.
The second half saw the Moorsiders pressing forward more, but Ryedale's defensive partnership of Dave Hoyle and Mike Horsley held firm.
On Saturday, Ryedale Sports Club lost 2-0 to current league leaders Edgehill, with a goal in each half by former Pickering Town players Paddy Mancrief and Ricky Greening.
Kirkbymoorside won 4-0 at Eastfield with two goals each for Lee Alexander and Alex Strickland.
Hunmanby United beat Sleights 2-0 with goals from Sam Cook and Andy Ball.
Cayton Corinthians beat West Pier 4-0 away to improve their chances of avoiding relegation. Steve Covill scored twice, and Marc Griffiths and Steve Chapman did the rest.
Wards came away from Filey Town with a 3-1 win. Les Johnson gave Wards the lead after 30 minutes before Filey player-manager Dave Brannan saw his penalty kick saved. Wards nipped into a three-goal lead, thanks to a brace of Dave Bowman goals - one from the spot. Paul Kempson pulled a goal back for Filey.
In the second division, leaders Edgehill Reserves beat Forge Hotel 4-0 with goals scored by Dean Lill (2), George Johnson and John Coulson.
Wards Reserves surprised Rillington and won 2-0, through a Chris Bowman penalty and a Tom Moorcroft goal.
Cayton Corinthians Reserves beat West Pier Reserves 7-0 with goals by Jamie Collins (2), Nick David, Lee Barber, Jamie Dickinson, Simon Stubbs and Lee Fishburn.
Filey Town Reserves and Tennyson drew 1-1. Jamie Lee gave Filey the lead but Sean Crow equalised.
The third division saw Seamer beat Heslerton 1-0 thanks to a Dan Hartley goal.
FC Aberdeen Reserves lost 2-1 at home to Bridlington Sports, who took an early lead through Peter Bowtell. Paul Sewell equalised before Brian Clough scored Bridlington's winner.
Scalby Reserves and Burniston shared the points in a four-goal thriller. Danny Gregory and Danni Dineen scored to give Scalby a two-goal lead but Burniston pulled back through Paul Brady (penalty) and substitute Chris Kendall.
John Simpson scored for Whitby Albion Rangers as his side lost 3-1 to FC Rosette, whose goals were scored by Eddie McKenzie, Gary Maw and John McGuinn.
