Moorsiders out-smartied by Rowntrees in the cup

Scarborough and District League roundup

BOTH Edgehill and Kirkbymoorside were defeated in their semi-finals games in the North Riding FA County Cup by York teams.

On paper Kirkbymoorside had the more difficult task, visiting Nestle Rowntree from the West Yorkshire League Premier division. They are also past winners of the competition.

The Moorsiders, without flu-bound manager Darren Rivis and star strikers Lee Alexander and Richard Bayes, had a make-shift side and held the home side in a goalless 90 minutes.

The all-important winning goal was scored by substitute Andy Cox, who volleyed into the top corner from outside the area five minutes from the end of extra time. However, the Moorsiders' should feel proud after an excellent display.

Edgehill, the current Scarborough and District League champions, visited shock team Bishopthorpe and lost 2-0. Andy Fenwich headed Bishopthorpe into a fourth minute lead and Chris Smith scored his side's second goal after 51 minutes with a header from a corner.

Edgehill then missed two good chances before tempers started to fray. Each side had a player sent off, while five more players were booked in the space of 15 minutes.

In the quarter-final of the East Riding CFA Country Cup, Ward won 3-1 at Long Riston with a goal each for Dougie McGregor, Paul Nock, and Lee Croft.

Filey Town were leading 4-1 at Crown FC but lost 5-4. Filey goals were scored by Paul Allick (3) and Les Johnson (2).

In the league Hunmanby United moved up into third position in the first division with a 3-1 home win against West Pier. Ryan Crawford opened the scoring for Hunmanby after 20 minutes after he beat four men to score with a brilliant individual goal. A minute later Carl Young equalised.

Hunmanby regained the lead in the second half when Ryan Crawford set up his dad, Andy Crawford, to score and Tom Owen completed the scoring after a fine build up with Ryan Crawford.

First division leaders Ryedale Sports Club received a 7-1 thrashing when they visited Eastfield, whose goals were scored by Craig McCroire (2), Liam Prendergast (2), Micky Dennis, Dave Snott, and a Steve Walker own goal Steve proctor scored for Ryedale.

Mark Griffiths scored in the first half as Cayton Corinthians beat Sleights 2-0. Matty Drury added the second goal in the second half.

The second division match of the say saw FC Aberdeen hold Cayton Corinthians in a thrilling 2-2 draw. Dave Littlefair scored to give Aberdeen the lead, Dave Kitching then equalised before Littlefair added his second to make it 2-1. Ronnie Lamb equalised for the Corinthians before half time.

Eastfield reserves top the second division after a brilliant 4-0 away win at FC Rosette, where the goals were scored by Richard Creaser (2), Andrew Hudson and Mick Bayes.

An even game saw Rillington draw 1-1 at home with Whitby Arcs. Arcs took the lead (midway in the second half) but Phil Horton scored a fine equaliser ten minutes from the end.

In the third division Hunmanby United reserves maintained their leaders' positions after beating lowly Sherburn 5-0 with goal scored by Brian Smith (3), Charlie Skinner and Jack Kempson.

Filey Town reserves moved up into fourth position, beating Burniston 3-0 with goals scored by Darren Playforth (2) and Paul Overton.
