Broadbent picked for Aussie visit

England under-15s cricketer, Dan Broadbent, has taken another gigantic step up the ladder. He has been selected as part of an England under-17s squad to visit Australia in April for two weeks.

Broadbent, a pupil at Ryedale School, received the news before he flew out yesterday to South Africa for a ten-day tour with Yorkshire under-16s. Broadbent has been selected in the 14-man England under-17s squad while still a year under the age limit.

The squad will be based at the Australian Cricket Academy in Adelaide, where they will be able to see at first hand the coaching set-up and methods employed by the top cricketing country in the world.

The England lads will also play matches while in Australia. To broaden his experience and knowledge this season, Broadbent will turn out for Yorkshire's Academy side, led by Ian Dews, in the Yorkshire League.

Ryedale Sports Club Cricket section will be holding their annual general meeting on Tuesday, February 20 in their clubhouse on Thornton Road in Pickering, starting at 7.30pm. Anyone interested in joining or helping the club in any way is invited to attend the meeting.
